Are the movers really artists?
Yes, most of them are.

How does using your services benefit artists?
Starving Artist is owned by artists- we also take less profit from the jobs than is customary, so that we can pay a much better wage to the artists who work for us. This also ensures that they will be far more careful with your belongings than the $8/hour guys sent by the larger companies.

What are your rates?

$75/hour for two men, $95/hour for three men- two hour minimum + $75 truck and travel (north and central Chicago- call for south side and suburban rates)

Can you move my piano?
No, I am sorry, but we are not equipped to move pianos.

Will you load or unload my rental truck?  What are the rates for this?
Yes- $180 for the first two hours, $75/hour after that (two man rate)

Can I help with my move?
Yes you can if you like, as long as you are not getting on and off the truck.

How should I prepare for my move? How well should I protect my belongings?
The more organized you are, the faster your move will go, and the less expensive it will be.  Small items should be boxed, drawers do not need to be emptied, as long as they are removable.  In general, provide as much protection as you feel is necessary for your belongings.  I will be adding a planning guide to this site in the near future- meanwhile, feel free to call or email with your questions.

How do I schedule my move?
Call 773-418-6368 to schedule your move.

Can I schedule by email?
Generally, yes, but it would be a good idea to call as well for a quick response.  Contact us by email or call 773-418-6368.

How do I pay?
We prefer cash at the end of the move.  We do not need a deposit.

Is it customary to tip the movers?
As in any service industry, it is customary to tip the movers provided that you are satisfied with the service- generally 15-20% is appropriate.  This is entirely up to the customer and is not required.
